Wendell C. Kitchin D.D.S., M.S., 92, of Fife Lake, passed away on March 6, 2018 at Munson Medical Center in Traverse City. He was born on July 24, 1925 to the late Paul and Agnes (Hatch) Kitchin in Sycamore, Ohio.
Wendell proudly served in the United States Navy from 1944 to 1946.
He then went into dentistry at The Ohio State University and was a dentist at the Traverse City State Hospital from 1956 to 1964, an orthodontist in Traverse City from 1966 to 1985 and a professor at the School of Dentistry at West Virginia University from 1985 to 2002.
In Wendell's spare time he enjoyed sailing, camping, fly fishing, photography, shooting and home improvement projects.
He was a member of the American Dental Association and the National Rifle Association.
Wendell will be greatly missed by his children, Bill (Pat) Kitchin, of Mayfield, Sam (Margaret) Kitchin, of Flushing, Amy (Warren) Kitchin Hower, of Arlington, Virginia, and Ann (Richard) Kitchin, of Colchester, Vermont. He is also survived by his eight grandchildren, Alex, of Royal Oak, Joseph and Adam, of Flushing, Shaun and Leah, of Mayfield, and Jascha, Iain and Magnus, of Colchester.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Phyllis Ann (Mason) Kitchin; and one brother, Paul C. Kitchin Jr.
A memorial service will take place at 2 p.m., with visitation held one hour before the service, on Saturday, March 10, 2018 at the Kalkaska Funeral Home.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Fife Lake Library or Salvation Army.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the Kalkaska Funeral Home and Cremation Services.
