William "Bill" Carlton Severance, 77, a longtime resident of Kalkaska, passed from this life to the next on Sunday morning, March 19, 2017 at the Kalkaska Eden Center at Kalkaska Memorial Hospital. Bill was born on Oct. 8, 1939 in East Jordan.
He was a longtime member of the Kalkaska Church of Christ.
Bill will be missed greatly by his wife of 55 years, Janet.
In his early years he delivered milk for Borden's Dairy. He earned a diploma from the Commercial Traders Institute in refrigeration and air conditioning and began his own business, Bill's Refrigeration. Bill retired from maintenance at Wayne Wire Cloth in Kalkaska after working there for 38 years.
Bill was a devoted family man and went through life helping people along the way without notice or fanfare. He was gifted with the ability to diagnose and fix virtually anything that was broken. He enjoyed many hobbies over the years, including taxidermy, wood carving and digital photography. He spent his time enjoying the outdoors, seasons and cutting and splitting wood for the winter with his wife.
Bill is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Janet; their son, Tim (Anita) Severance; his grandchildren, Scott and Kaylin Severance; and his brother, Frank Severance.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Edith Severance; brother, Don "Tuff" Severance; and sister, Virginia "Ginny" Severance.
A memorial service is planned for Saturday, March 25, 2017 at 11 a.m., at the Kalkaska Church of Christ. A time for friends and family to gather will take place Friday, March 24, from 6 to 8 p.m., also at the church.
Memorial gifts in Bill's honor may be made to the Kalkaska Church of Christ.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Kalkaska Funeral Home and Cremation Services.
