Text size

Winnie (Minkle) Guzowski, 94, of Lake George, born July 13, 1923, passed away quietly and surrounded by her family. Winnie was a Depression-era child who grew up in Boston amidst a loving family of three sisters and one brother. Having lost her mother at a young age her father, Arthur Minkle, kept the family together throughout their young lives.
Winnie married Leo Michael Guzowski on Oct. 25, 1947. They immediately moved to Cleveland, Ohio, to start their life together. Children soon followed, seven in fact.
Survivors include Paul (Pat), of Rochester, Kenneth, of Eugene, Oregon, Richard (Sally), of Lake Leelanau, Arthur (Mary), of Chelsea, Robert (Sue), of Lake George, Mary Guzowski-Lindbeck (James), of Minneapolis, Minnesota, and John (Carol), of Lake; as well as 12 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Having graduated from the Boston Secretarial School, Winnie went on to work as a business and medical secretary before becoming a full time mother and wife. During the 1950 through the 1970s, she was a devoted and creative homemaker.
After purchasing the Lake General Store with Leo in 1973, she was an active member of the community in the village of Lake. Upon retiring in the mid-1980s, she and Leo continued to enjoy time at Bass Lake, while wintering in Florida. After Leo passed away Winnie remained in Fort Myers, Florida, where she was active in club activities and enjoyed walking, swimming and Tai Chi. In 2015 she returned to Michigan to live with family in Lake George.
Winnie was an avid reader, knitter and card player all of her life and enjoyed socializing wherever she lived.
She was a devout member of St. Athanasius Catholic Church in Harrison.
