Allan Ellsworth Domres, 69, of Onekama, died Monday, June 26, 2017 at his home. He was born July 13, 1947 in Manistee, the son of Ellsworth and Hildegarde (Schimke) Domres.
Allan was a veteran of the United States Army. During his time in the service he found himself surrounded by the Viet Cong with 115 of his fellow soldiers, 25 of which were killed and 50 of which were wounded. Allan, one of the wounded, remained a true and steadfast patriot his entire life.
Allan went on to own and operate Domres Construction with his wife.
When he wasn't busy working he lived for his children and grandchildren. He was a fixture at their sporting events, and he taught them to shoot and to drive.
Allan had a steadfast and unwavering faith in his Lord. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Arcadia.
On July 12, 1969 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Onekama, Allan married Catherine Gabel, who survives him. He is also survived by his children, Karl (Charity) Domres, of Arcadia, Heidi (Jeff) Johnson, of Jenison, and Gretchen (Kevin) Tabaczka, of Manistee; his grandchildren, Wyatt Johnson, Elizabeth Domres, Maggie Domres, Ingrid Johnson, Eva Johnson, Alec Tabaczka, Adam Domres, Travis Johnson and Jolie Tabaczka; and his sisters, Sandra (Roger) Ringel, of Clermont, Florida, and Marsha (John) O'Herron, of Wisconsin.
Allan was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Dennis Domres; his maternal and paternal grandparents; and numerous aunts and uncles.
Funeral services will be conducted at 3 p.m. Saturday, July 1, 2017, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Arcadia, with Pastor Jim Metcalf officiating. Interment will follow in Onekama Village Cemetery II. Visitation will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, June 30, 2017 at the Terwilliger Funeral Home in Kaleva.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Manistee County Community Foundation for a scholarship to be established for skilled trades at Onekama Consolidated Schools.
