David Lawrence Bacon, resident of Bloomfield Township, passed away unexpectedly Sunday, March 19, 2017. He was 70.
Dave was born on Aug. 8, 1946, in Ferndale, to Robert and Martha (Cunningham) Bacon. After a chance encounter and some courting, Dave entered into marriage with the former Nancy Childers on Sept. 21, 1983 in Gladwin.
Dave grew up in the Ferdale area before attending school and becoming a graduate of Ferndale High School in 1966.
He made his living for a number of years working downstate with Johnson Control before eventually relocating to Northern Michigan.
From a young age Dave was a baseball fan, and that passion grew as he played softball in church leagues, began to coach at a youth level and even served as president and in other capacities for the Little League programs. There was no doubt he enjoyed music. Dave was one who was fortunate enough to attend Woodstock, as well as see his favorite band, the Grateful Dead, in concert. Dave loved the outdoors and enjoyed time fishing and hunting, but had no greater love than creating memories with his children and grandchildren as he passed those hobbies along to the next generations.
David is survived by his wife, Nancy "Nan" Bacon, of Cadillac; his children, Robert (Lisa) Bacon, of Traverse City, Jeremiah Bacon, of Manton, Elizabeth Bacon, of Cadillac, Davin Bacon, of Grand Rapids, and Sabrina Bacon, of Cadillac; four grandchildren, Dana, Aidin, Austin and Gavin; a sister, Martie (William) Cunningham; a brother, Robert (Minnie) Bacon; as well as many other loving family members and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Martha in 1983 and Robert in 2004. Dave was also preceded in death by his sisters, Betty and Barb; and one brother, Gerald.
Memorial services remembering Dave will be held at 1 p.m., with visitation held one hour prior, on Friday, March 24, 2017 at the Hitesman-Holdhsip Funeral Home in Cadillac. Dave's cousin, Thomas Holiday, will officiate.
