Dieter W. Schoen passed away at home after a sudden diagnosis of cancer on Sept. 7, 2017 with his longtime companion, Margot Anderson, at his side. Dieter was born on Dec. 5, 1942 in Wiesbaden, Germany.
Growing up as a child after the war Dieter learned frugality and giving. As an adult after a brief term in the free-German air force, he later owned a successful business in medical supplies.
He came with Margot after retirement in 2000 to the United States, where they have long enjoyed family and friends.
Dieter was dedicated in service for many years to the Traverse City Elks Lodge and participated in many charitable activities. He was stubborn, precise, gracious and giving.
He leaves behind Margot; stepsons, Kevin Holmgren and Bob Holmgren; stepdaughters, Laura Truelove and Michelle Sands; his brother, Manfred, of Germany; and more friends than can be listed.
He will be sadly missed.
Per Dieter's wishes, there will be no service, aside from Margot's immediate family for a private memorial.
