Dorothy Little, 88, of Traverse City, formerly of Royal Oak, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Sunday, March 19, 2017. Dorothy was born on Dec. 20, 1928 in Detroit to the late Arnold and Gertrude (Wright) Ford.
Mrs. Little was a homemaker who spent her life nurturing and caring for her family. Her happiest moments were when she was surrounded by her children and grandchildren. She loved to laugh and was always willing to listen and engage in conversation. Music was a big part of her life, and there isn't a time that her family can remember her not singing around the house.
Dorothy fought a tireless battle with dementia, and the family would like to thank the endless number of caretakers who cared for her during her journey.
Surviving are three sons and three daughters, Paul Little, Janice (George) Underwood, Douglas (Jennifer Strauss) Little, Donald (Julie) Little, Jacqueline (Mark) Benson and Jill (Brian Riggs) Little; and 10 grandchildren, Paul Larson, Chad Underwood, Erin Banton, Justin Benson, Christopher Little, Taylor Benson, Katie Little, Marne Little, MacKay Little and Mason Douglas Riggs. Also surviving are 11 great-grandchildren; as well as a sister, Carol Patricia Perry.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband of 70 years, Douglas R. Little; her sister, Margaret Buccini; and her brother, Donald Ford.
Friends are welcome to celebrate Dorothy's life with her family from 4 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, March 23, 2017 at the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home, 305 Sixth Street, Traverse City. A funeral service honoring Dorothy will take place at 11 a.m., with visitation one hour prior, on Friday, March 24, 2017, at the funeral home as well. Burial will follow in Grand Traverse Memorial Gardens.
