Gary A. Hiatt, 82, of Traverse City, passed away Friday, May 12, 2017 at the Grand Traverse Pavilions. Gary was born on Oct. 10, 1934 in Mishawaka, Indiana, to the late Gerald and Mae (Spore) Hiatt.
He married Idalyn A. Groleau on June 13, 1959. Together they lovingly raised three wonderful sons.
Gary moved from Indiana to the Traverse City area in 1946. He retired from Munson Medical Center, where he was a radiology technologist.
He was a devoted member to St. Francis Catholic Church and the to the Knights of Columbus.
In his spare time Gary enjoyed volunteering at the State Theatre and at the Father Fred Foundation. Also, Gary liked to golf and bowl. Most importantly, Gary loved his family and spending time with them.
Surviving Gary are his sons, Gerry (Kathy) Hiatt, of Traverse City, Jeff (Deb) Hiatt, of Punta Gorda, Florida, and Joel Hiatt, of Torch Lake; grandchildren, Dylan, Elizabeth, Jonathan and Emily; great-grandchildren, Kieran and Elisha; sister, Nancy Patino; and many other family members and friends.
Gary was preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Judith Courtad, John Hiatt and Richard Hiatt.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, May 21, 2017, from 5 to 7 p.m., with a 7 p.m. rosary recitation, at the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home. Mass will be held on Monday May 22, 2017 at St. Francis Catholic Church at 11 a.m., with a visitation beginning at 10 a.m. Burial will take place at Grand Traverse Memorial Gardens.
