Harold LeRoy Newmarch, 97, of Kingsley, passed away on Saturday, Feb. 18, 2017. He was born on March 7, 1919 in Kingsley to the late Earl and Mildred (Smith) Newmarch.
Harold was a lifelong resident of Kingsley, where he farmed most of his life.
He married his beloved wife, Mary Hency, on June 7, 1939; together they raised six children and watched their family grow until she passed away on Feb. 27, 2000.
Harold retired in 1984 from the Grand Traverse County Road Commission.
Hunting was always his passion, but he also found time to go bowling, throw horseshoes or go fishing.
Harold is survived by his children, Eleanora (Dale) Strange, Joan Willingham, Juanita (Bob) King, Marion (Don) Peplinski, Sharon (Terry) Case and Dan (Amy) Newmarch; 18 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; his siblings, Vera Riley, Doris Stein, Irene Stremlow, Helen Fritz, Jay Newmarch and Leona Nye; sister-in-law, Anna Newmarch; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Mary; brothers, Kenneth and Floyd Newmarch; sister, Lena Themn; grandson, Pat Case; great-grandsons, Josh and Jedidiah; son-in-law, Russell Willingham; and grandson-in-law, Jeff Stone.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 25, 2017 with final visitation beginning at 10 a.m., at the Kingsley Baptist Church, 7511 Blackman Road, Kingsley. Pastors Mike Brayton of Kingsley Baptist Church and Carl Litchfield of Kingsley United Methodist Church will officiate the service. Burial will take place in the spring at Kingsley Evergreen Cemetery.
Memorial contributions in Harold's honor may be made to Kingsley United Methodist Church or the Kingsley Area Ambulance.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Kalkaska Funeral Home and Cremation Services.
