Ida Ellen Mix, of Frankfort, passed away March 23, 2017 at the age of 96. Born in Frankfort on Nov. 7, 1920, she was the daughter of Ole and Mary Gunderson.
On Dec. 5, 1939 she married the love of her life, RC VanBrocklin, with whom she raised seven children. They were married for 34 years until RC's death in 1973. On Aug. 12, 1977 Ida married her second love, Lawrence Mix. They were married 15 years until his death in 1992.
Ida was blessed with many gifts, talents and skills. Her love of gardening and engaging in many different projects kept her busy.
She was a member of the Frankfort Eagles, Eastern Star and a lifelong member of Trinity Lutheran Church, where Trinity helped honor the Norwegian heritage she was so proud of in an annual fundraiser dinner.
Ida will be remembered by her family and friends for her devotion to her children and grandchildren, her sense of humor and wit, her sweet tooth, her competitive spirit and love of games and her unyielding faith.
She is survived by her children, Zelda Hodge, of Frankfort, Janice K. Brown, of Frankfort, Hank (Claudia) VanBrocklin, of Elberta, and Joan (Tim) Thomas, of Traverse City; daughter-in-law, Gisele Mix, of Ada; 24 grandchildren; and many great and great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister, Sara (Mick) McKinley; and sisters-in-law, Goldie, Vera and Sis.
She was also preceded in death by her children, Bob, Zora and Donnie; and two grandchildren.
Visitation will be held Sunday, March 26, from 2 to 4 p.m., at the Jowett Family Funeral Home in Benzonia. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, March 27, at Trinity Lutheran Church, with Pastor Rick Stieve officiating. Burial will be in Crystal Lake Township Cemetery East.
Contributions may be given to Trinity Lutheran Church.
