James Richard Goodyear, 28, passed away suddenly Sept. 24, 2017. JR was born Nov. 22, 1988 in the state of Rhode Island and was the son of James W. and Diane Goodyear.
JR, a nearly lifelong local resident, was a graduate of Traverse City Central High School.
He was known as a great listener and friend to many, loved to make people laugh and had an infectious, big laugh and smile himself.
He was a hardworking cook during much of his life for a variety of establishments. He was very talented in the kitchen.
He enjoyed fixing up his cars, "teching" on engines and aspired to go to school for engine repair. He loved to ride motocross bikes more than anything for several of his teen years.
JR is survived by his mother and father; daughter, Skye Lynn Goodyear; and brother, Tim Wharton. Extended family includes several aunts, uncles and many cousins on both coasts.
A memorial service celebrating JR's life will be held at Peegeo's Event Building, 625 High Lake Road, at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 7.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Skye Lynn Goodyear's future education fund.
