Kim Ginger McKinley, age 63, joined her Lord and Savior early Thursday morning, April 27th, 2017, at Spectrum Health Hospital in Grand Rapids. She passed away unexpectedly, surrounded by her family, after a medical emergency. Her sudden departure from this earth has left a huge void in our family.
Kim was born on June 19th, 1953, to Kenneth and Charrie Berg in Traverse City and has remained a lifelong resident. Kim devoted 43 years of her life working for Munson Medical Center, first in the pathology department before later transitioning to her long time role as the Manager of Medical Staff Services. She served as a kind, knowledgeable and resourceful leader for the medical staff throughout the years. She was very skilled in her field, and was president of the National Association of Medical Staff Services, as well as the Michigan Association of Medical Staff Services.
Kim was a devoted and loving daughter, caring for her parents' needs as they advanced in years. She also loved spending time outdoors and enjoyed skiing, golfing, fishing, and kayaking. She had a huge passion for animals, most importantly all of the dogs that she had throughout her life. She held the greatest love for her present dog, Buddy.
Kim is survived by her husband, Bill McKinley; son, Scott (Julie) Gondzar; mother, Charrie Berg; brother, Timothy (Debbie) Berg; sisters-in-law, Marsha McKinley and Sandy (Mike) Scott; nieces, Krista Berg and Courtney (Daniel) Tuttle; and numerous cousins. She is preceded in death by her father, Kenneth Berg.
Visitation is scheduled for Saturday, May 6th, at 10:00 am at First Congregational Church in Traverse City. The funeral service will take place at 11:00 am and the family requests casual attire. Donations in lieu of flowers may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project (www.woundedwarriorproject.org), First Congregational Church, or the Cherryland Humane Society in memory of Kim McKinley.
