Margaret Rita Pomianek, age 91, loving mother and grandmother, of Interlochen, passed away peacefully on Feb. 28, after a brief illness at Munson Hospice House.
Margaret was born June 15, 1925 in Plymouth, Pennsylvania, to George and Margaret (Fetsko) Stiber. She was the eldest of five daughters and had the opportunity to work beside her parents in the family grocery store from a very young age.
Margaret graduated from Plymouth High School and went on to Wyoming Seminary for an associate's degree in business.
She worked in the banking industry at Wyoming National Bank for six years before becoming a full time mother and homemaker.
On Oct. 22, 1949 Margaret married the late Walter A. Pomianek Sr. in Plymouth. Together they relocated to the Detroit area to start a family and raised four children in West Bloomfield. Following retirement in 1985 Walt and Marge moved to their home on Cedar Hedge Lake near Interlochen.
Margaret was a member of the Interlochen Friends of the Library, the Interlochen Women's Club and the VFW Women's Auxiliary. Over her lifetime she enjoyed being a part of several bowling leagues, garden clubs, the Birmingham Community Center and several card-playing groups. Margaret was very creative and also ran her own ceramics business for a decade.
In her spare time she enjoyed knitting, reading, gardening, visiting casinos and fishing on the boat with her husband. But her greatest love of all was spending time with her family, of whom she was so proud.
Margaret will be dearly missed and is survived by her children, Catherine Warner, of Traverse City, Walter (Larry Coates) Jr., of Traverse City, and Mary (Lynn) Patrick, of Traverse City; five grandchildren, Matthew Pomianek, Bryan Warner, Christina Dames-Pomianek, Sean Patrick and Eric Iversen; three great-grandchildren, Grant Pomianek, Harper Pomianek and Michaella Warner; her sister, Theresa (Edward) Mikulski; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Margaret was preceded in death by her husband, Walt; son, Robert Pomianek; and three sisters, Anna Stiber, Marie Spess and Helen Jones.
A private family service and burial beside her husband will be held in the spring.
Memorial contributions in Margaret's name may be directed to the Interlochen Public Library, PO Box 369, Interlochen, MI 49643.
The family would like to sincerely thank the staff at Munson Hospice House, Grand Traverse Pavilions Rehabilitation Center and Units B2 and A3 at Munson Medical Center for the wonderful care that mom received during the past two months.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Covell Funeral Home of Traverse City.
