Marian M. Hobson, 86, of Traverse City, passed away peacefully on April 5, 2017 after a lengthy illness. Marian was born Nov. 30, 1930 in Pewamo, to Victor and Aurelia (nee Simon) Cook.
In her youth Marian enjoyed playing a variety of sports, including girls basketball on the Gladwin High School team.
Marian married Bruce T. Hobson, of Honor, on May 30, 1951. Marian and her family eventually settled in Traverse City in 1965.
Marian was employed in the accounting and the purchasing offices of the Traverse City State Hospital until her retirement in 1989.
Upon retirement Marian enjoyed sailing on Grand Traverse Bay with skipper Bruce, dancing, doing yard and garden projects and serving as an usher at St. Francis Church. Marian also enjoyed swimming, piano music, working on jigsaw puzzles and hosting her children and their families at her home.
Marian is survived by her children, Valerie (James) Ransom, of Traverse City, Bruce T. Hobson II, of Munising, and Kevin (Marleen) Hobson, of Seattle, Washington; grandchildren, Robert and Selena Ransom, Jillian (Mike) Grix and Jaquelyn (Gordon) Pon; and great-grandson, Stephen Grix. Marian is also survived by her sisters, Hildegarde, Eleanor and Patricia.
Marian was preceded in death by her loving husband, Bruce; and her sisters, Lillian and Irene.
In accordance with her wishes, following cremation Marian will be interred next to her husband at Fort Custer National Cemetery in Battle Creek. No services are planned.
