Maxine's Story

Text size

Maxine "Mic" V. Pickard, age 66, passed away peacefully Monday, June 5, 2017. Mic was born April 10, 1951 in Traverse City to Macks Pickard and Doris Haltley.
Mic spent the majority of her life as a daycare provider in Kingsley, a career she was truly passionate about. She loved the magic that children bring to our lives and loved that they could find joy with her. This career allowed her to not only spend precious moments with other families but her own as well. She adored the years spent providing care for nieces, nephews and her own grandchildren.
Mic had been a resident at Grand Traverse Pavilions, where she was dearly loved by the staff and other residents, and leaves behind many dear friends made while living there.
She loved to sing, dance, draw and ride motorcycles. She also loved to travel and was a member of the VFW Auxiliary Post 2780. Above all, she loved spending time with her family.
Mic is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Cassie and Kip McPherson; and her grandchildren, Harlie, David, Kilee and Gracie McPherson; sister, Sheila Pickard, Jim and Judy Soper; nephew, Jim (Bridget) Soper and their children, James (Kolie), Nieko (Aiyana), Orianna, Tristyn and Enola; sister and brother-in-law, Janice and Gaylord McQueer; nephew, Floyd (Ann) McQueer and their daughter, Emma McQueer; niece, Maeko McQueer; sister and brother-in-law, Dianna "Dinky" and Joe Stone; nephew, Shawn (Kim) Kuelske and their children, Kaylene, Alex, and Elijah; nephew, Dan Clairmont and his children, Sierra and Danica; niece, Karsheena (Brandon) Kuelske and their children, Serraiden, Serenity and Jaxon; nephew, Santana (Taria) Soper and their daughter, Isabelle; and nephew, Jake (Kristin) Stone and their son, Jackson. Mic is also survived by step siblings, Chris (Gary) Wilson, Dell Haltley and Michelle Hansen; longtime mother-in-law, Bev McQueer; many longtime brother and sisters-in-law and their families; and several cousins, lifelong friends, "nieces" and "nephews" who into adulthood will refer to her as "Aunt Mickey."
Mic was preceded in death by her grandparents, Sherman and Viola Pickard, Elmer and Leonna Linderleaf; parents, Macks (Marion) Pickard and Doris ("Bussy") Haltley; sister, Julie Pickard; daughter, Dawn Rebec; nephew, Terry Soper; great-niece, Elizabeth Smith Clairmont; longtime father-in-law, Don McQueer; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.
Cremation has taken place. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to VFW Auxiliary Post 2780 in her name.
