Michael Robert McCarthy peacefully passed away in his home from heart disease with his family by his side on Sept. 16, 2017. Mike was born on Sept. 4, 1941 in Chicago, son of the late Margaret and Robert McCarthy.
He is survived by his wife, Holly; son, James Raymond (Jennifer); daughter, Kellie (Murl) Watts; stepson, Todd (Michelle) Mackey; stepdaughter, Mindy (Steve) DiGiuseppe; 16 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by his brother, John (Dawn).
He grew up in Cicero and after high school was drafted by the White Sox. He pitched a perfect game in Daytona Beach on June 28, 1961.
Mike married Sherron (nee Korbelik) and they had two children, moving to Bloomfield Hills, where he was a successful sales representative. Mike and his second wife, Holly, married in 1990 and moved to Florida, where he started working for Walgreens. He worked for Walgreens for 21 years in Florida and Traverse City, earning the nickname "Mr. Walgreens" from many of his customers.
