Nancy Jo (Freeman) Wickens, 81, of Pierport, Michigan, passed away Tuesday, May 30, 2017 in Charlotte. She was born October 28, 1935 to William R. and M. Esther (Hall) Freeman. Nan graduated from Grand Ledge High School and attended Grinnell College in Iowa. She married Ronald Charles Wickens on August 27, 1955, together they raised three children. She trusted her faith in God to guide her through life.
Nan worked for John Curtis, DDS as a dental/office assistant and at Town and Country Animal Hospital as a receptionist. She was a member of Sparrow Women's Auxiliary and its Board. She volunteered at Eaton Township Board of Review, Center Eaton United Methodist Church where she also played the piano, and Plymouth Congregational Church. After her move to her beloved Pierport, MI home in 1992 she became a member of the Onekama Brethren Church.
Nan enjoyed socializing with her classmates from Grand Ledge, YMCA Sports Club and Sparrow Auxiliary. She was quick with a smile and she developed friendships everywhere she went. She was an excellent pianist, loved horses, dogs, cats, and tolerated numerous spider eggs hatchings on the kitchen counters and garter snakes in coat pockets. She will be greatly missed.
Nan is survived by daughter, Peggy (Jeff) Mariucci; son, David (Vicki) Wickens; five grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren. Nan was preceded in death by her husband, Ron, her parents, her brother, William Freeman, and her daughter, Debra Jo (Wickens) DeLong.
