Rita's Story

Rita Rush (nee Gallivan) Hockstad slipped away on angel's wings on June 6, 2017 with her family at her side.
Rita was born in Leelanau County Feb. 5, 1920. Bruce Hockstad married Rita June 27, 1940.
Rita leaves behind four children, Karen McGoldrick, Sandra Knoblock (John) Cynthia Hockstad and Brian Hockstad.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Bruce in 2005; and a son, Gregory in 1996.
Rita also leaves behind 15 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Hockstad worked in the pathology lab at Pontiac Osteopathic Hospital in Pontiac.
Rita belonged to the sons of Norway, to the Red Hats Society and to the Elks.
Rita enjoyed playing bingo and spending time with her large family.
Mrs. Hockstad was the matriarch of her family. She was deeply loved and respected by her family and will be sorely missed.
A visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m., with a 7 p.m. rosary recitation, on Friday, June 9, 2017 at Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian Burial honoring Rita will be held at 10 a.m., with visitation one hour prior, on Saturday, June 10, 2017 at St. Francis Catholic Church in Traverse City.
