Robert L. Pincumbe, age 86, died Feb. 26, 2017 at Munson Hospice House.
He was born in Flint on Oct. 11, 1930, the son of Raleigh and Eulane Pincumbe. On April 14, 1961 he married Beverlee Tinker, of Traverse City, who survives.
Bob graduated from Flint Central High School in 1948. He then enlisted in the United States Air Force.
His curiosity kept him a lifelong student. After attending DeVry Technical Institute in Chicago he received his First Class FCC license. He then took many classes part time from 1961 to 1987, earning his Bachelor of Science degree in television production from Ferris State University and his Master of Education degree in instructional technology from Wayne State University. Classes in flying, sailing and Dale Carnegie were also taken in his spare time.
In 1953 Bob started his career as a TV engineer and was employed by several TV stations in Michigan, including Channel 12 WJRT Flint as studio supervisor and WGTU 29 & 8 as vice president and chief engineer. He spent a few years on the faculty at Ferris as head of media production, worked in the Instructional Systems and Special Projects Department at Chrysler's Corporate Headquarters in Auburn Hills and later finished his work years at Cruse Communications in East Lansing as operations manager, retiring in 1998.
His memberships include the Society of Motion Picture and TV Engineers, Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Science, Traverse City Rotary and Elks clubs and many more. While living in the Flint area he was active in The Flint Banjo Club and was past president of Flint Toastmasters. He was a 32nd Degree Master Mason and a member of the Elf Khurafeh Shrine Temple.
He loved playing the banjo, sailing, tennis, and in retirement enjoyed bowling in the senior league. He was a volunteer for Munson hospital, The Traverse City Senior Center and local access TV as a producer.
He is survived by his wife, Beverlee; son, Charles (Colleen) Pincumbe, of The Woodlands, Texas; daughter, Valerie Pincumbe, of Traverse City; grandson, James (Cassie) Pincumbe, of Grand Blanc; brother, John Pincumbe, of Schoolcraft; sister-in-law, Lana Pincumbe, of Venice, Florida; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Lawrence Pincumbe; brother, William Pincumbe; and sister-in-law, Linda Pincumbe.
Cremation has taken place. At Bob's request, no services will be held. Burial will be at Oakwood Cemetery.
