Ronald Earl Deans departed this life May 3, 2017 surrounded by his wife and children in Traverse City.
He was born Feb. 14, 1928 in Flagstaff, Arizona, to Royce Elliott Deans and Emily Elizabeth (Fleischauer) Deans. Ron was raised in Tuba City, Arizona, where his parents ran the trading post.
Ron left Arizona to attend high school at Wasatch Academy in Mt. Pleasant, Utah. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1946 to 1948 and then attended Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah.
Ron married Lenoir Hatfield Sept. 9, 1950 in Wilmette, Illinois.
Ron began his employment at Fisher Body while living in Warrenville, Illinois, where the couple's three children were born. In 1961 the family moved to Western Springs, Illinois, where they called home for 35 years. In 1996 Ron and Lenoir moved to Traverse City.
Ron enjoyed sailing, singing and making music with his family, reading, good movies, solving crossword puzzles and doing family history. He loved spending time with his three children, their spouses, his 11 grandchildren and his 11 great-grandchildren. Never one to boast, brag or wanting to be in the spotlight, his gentle soft-spoken manner and kind words touched everyone he knew, making him the biggest man in the room.
Ron is survived by his wife of 66 years, Lenoir (Hatfield) Deans; his son, Royce Elliott Deans and wife, Kimberly Kay (Phillips) Deans; his daughter, Clarissa (Deans) Lewis and husband, Robert Fielding Lewis; his daughter, Tafel Jane (Deans) Hutchison and husband, Michael Hutchison; his 11 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and his half-sister, Midge (Boyer) Lora and husband, Don Lora.
