Sally Stonehouse (Konold), 88, of Traverse City and formerly of Suttons Bay, passed away Tuesday, April 18, 2017 at the Traverse Victorian Inn with her daughter by her side.
Sally was born on May 28, 1928 in Bay City. Her given name was Mariella May. She was the daughter of Leslie John and Ella Mary (Bernthal) Stonehouse. In 1951 in Detroit, she married Matthew John Konold, who preceded her in death in 1999.
She graduated from Valparaiso University and Michigan State University with a degree in art and literacy.
Sally loved animals, nature, the Arts, history, literature and being with her family.
Sally is survived by her children, Katherine Hill, of Ishpeming, Mary (Jim) Rupert, of Lake Ann, Ann (Joe) LaBonte, of Traverse City, and John "Jack" Konold, of Sante Fe, New Mexico; grandchildren, Andy and Tom Hill, Sarah Johnson, Ben Rupert, Abraham, Daniel and Bess LaBonte and Frankie Konold; great-grandchildren, Noah and Kaitlyn Hill, Ian, Dylan and Kyle Johnson and Soona and Bodhi Rupert; nephew, Mark Bernthal; and special friends, Bob and Marsha Walton and Ken and Betty Krantz.
A memorial service will be held on Sunday, May 7, at 2 p.m., with family greeting friends one hour prior, at the Martinson Funeral Home of Suttons Bay. The Rev. Ben Schultz will officiate.
