Theodore L. Phelps, age 93, of Cedar, passed away peacefully Saturday, March 4, 2017 at Munson Hospice House with his family by his side. He was born Feb. 13, 1924 in Saginaw to Leroy and Ezaleah (Berry) Phelps.
Theodore married the love of his life, Dorothy Timerson, on June 28, 1947 in Redford. Together they would raise four daughters.
At the age of 17 Theodore enlisted in the U.S. Marines and served his country during World War II. He spent time in Okinawa working as a Tech Sergeant.
After his honorable discharge Theodore returned home and worked for eight years for the Detroit Fire Department. He then went to work for Ford Motor Company as a boiler operator for 23 years. Theodore also worked for the VA Hospital in Allen Park for several years.
In his spare time Theodore enjoyed music, gemology, tinkering with cars, boating and reading.
He will be greatly missed by his four daughters, Diane Elaine (Timothy) Anest, of Redford, Bonnie Lee Davio, of Traverse City, Barbara Lynn White, of Lake Ann, and Hally Susan (Barry) Ryan, of Ada; and two grandsons, Brian Theodore Davio and Jason Timothy Anest.
Besides his parents, Theodore was preceded in death by his wife of 66 years, Dorothy; and brothers, Keith and Irving Phelps.
A memorial service will be held Sunday, March 19, 2017 at 1 p.m., at the Covell Funeral Home in Traverse City. Family will greet friends one hour prior to the service.
Memorial contributions in Theodore's name may be directed to the Cherryland Humane Society.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Covell Funeral Home of Traverse City.
