Thomas Duncan, of Traverse City, died March 9 holding his daughter's hand at Meadow Brook Care Facility in Bellaire. Born March 26, 1921, he lived most of adult life in Cadillac with his wife of 66 years, Ethel (Wilhelm). In 2002 they moved to Aspen Hills Apartments in Traverse City, where Ethel died in 2007.
A veteran of World War II, Tom was a patient, generous and a very kind man. Into his 90s he enjoyed walking in the woods and helping his many friends with errands, snow removal from their cars or just a quiet visit. At 95 Tom was proud he was able to live independently until his stroke in January of this year.
Tom is survived by his daughter, Debbie "George" (Rex) Savory; a brother, Nelson (Rheagail) Duncan; son-in-law, James Sustaire; and dear friend, Judy Flenner. Also surviving are five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by wife, Ethel; daughter, Jackie Sustaire; grandson, Tyson Sustaire; son-in-law, Tom Nuss; and several siblings.
Tom's family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to the staff of Meadow Brook Care Facility for the wonderful care provided to him.
According to his wishes, Tom has been cremated and no services are planned.
"Night, Dad. I'll always be Daddy's girl."
Arrangements have been entrusted to Covell Funeral Home of Traverse City.
