Alice C. Doe
Alice C. Doe, age 89, of Traverse City, passed away Oct. 13, 2019. Alice was born in Five Lakes on April 8, 1930 daughter of the late Glen and Martha (Beyer) Avis.
She retired as a social services case worker from the State of Michigan.
Alice will be remembered by her children with love and gratitude for her constant support. She served as elementary school homeroom mother, Boy Scout den mother and Girl Scout troop leader. Alice encouraged them to participate in band, sports and student government. She ensured they attended the Davison Lutheran Church each week. Alice was known for the creative birthday cakes she baked for them every year and the hundreds of jars of fruits and vegetables she canned each fall.
She was a wonderful role model as an involved citizen, collecting funds for the March of Dimes, holding multiple offices in the Lutheran Ladies Aid Society and years later served as president in the American Business Women's Association. Alice organized many church banquets and Davison High School Marching Band events. Rest in peace.
Alice is survived by her sons, Charles (Carol) Doe, Lawrence (Catherine) Doe and Lyle (Jean) Doe; daughters, Brenda Doe, Sally VanRoeyen and Cynthia (Elton) Wineman; sister, Ruth Ann (Pete) Kavanagh; sisters-in-law, Eva Avis and Elizabeth Doe; 17 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Nelson Charles Doe; sister and brother-in-law, Elva and Robert Baird; brother, Ronald Avis; brother-in-law, William Doe; and sister-in-law, Lilly Mae Doe.
A graveside service will take place at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 16, 2019 at Davison Cemetery, 10080 E. Potter Road, Davison, MI 48423.
