Manistee, Michigan - Barbara J. Sleder, age 83 of Manistee, passed away on Monday December 30, 2024, in Traverse City, Michigan.

Born on August 12, 1941, in Traverse City, Barbara was the daughter of the late Erich and Jean (Paton) Sleder. She graduated from Traverse City High School and went on to attend Henry Ford Hospital School of Nursing, Spring Arbor College where she received her BA, and then Western Michigan University where she graduated with her Master of Public Administration.

Barbara was a nurse practitioner for 50 years before retiring in 2013.

She was a member of the First Congregational Church in Traverse City.

In her spare time, Barbara loved to read, garden, perform yoga, and take part in water aerobics. Water was part of her soul - it was where she found the most peace.

She is survived by her children Peter (Karen) Hairston and Erika Whitmyer; grandchildren Kristen, Erich, Carter, Emma, and Ashley; sister Ruth Ann Quinn; and many other family and friends.

In addition to her parents, Barbara was preceded in death by her brother, Jon.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, June 14, 2025 from 1:30 pm to 3 pm at Fifth Avenue Beach in Manistee.

Memorial contributions may be made to Homeward Bound Animal Shelter in Manistee or to the American Cancer Society.
