Betty Louise Adams Obituary

Betty Louise Adams (Deakins) 91, died peacefully in her home with family by her side April 19, 2023. She was born to Orin Lester Deakins and Rilla Sarah Mosher on April 3, 1932 in Blanchard, MI. She was raised on a farm in Remus, MI until the age of 13 when her parents moved to Detroit. Betty skipped two grades graduating from Detroit Southwestern High School at the age of 15. She married at a young age and spent the next 20+ years as a dedicated wife and mother to her four sons. Before divorcing in 1975, she became a State of Michigan Licensed Practical Nurse December 9th, 1974. She was hired in 1975 by Henry Ford Hospital as a pediatric nurse and worked in that capacity for many years. She then moved to Big Rapids Michigan to pursue and earn a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree from Ferris State College. Subsequently, she worked in the home healthcare industry until she retired in 1995 and moved to Onekama, MI.

Betty was a strong-minded, independent, trail-blazing woman who was a staunch advocate for women and children and actively volunteered with non-profit organizations and movements supporting non-violence, peace, women's equality, and children rights. She loved the outdoors and especially relished bird watching, hiking, and going to the beach. Betty cherished music and poetry, and loved to debate and discuss politics, philosophy, and ideology.

Betty is survived by sons Brad Adams and Perry Adams, daughter in laws: Cathy (Conlon) Adams and Debbie (Teets) Adams, brother John Deakins, sister-in-law Barbara, sister Jeannie Thornton, grand-children Blair Jr, Amy, Ryan, and Sarah, and many great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her sons Paul Adams Jr. and Blair Adams and her brother Larry Deakins.

A memorial service will be held later this spring. In lieu of flowers, donations came be made to the Traverse City Women's Resource Center.
