Traverse City, Michigan - Carolyn Hope Belfry, 89, of Traverse City, passed away peacefully at Cherry Hill Haven in Kalkaska on February 27, 2027.
Carolyn was born on August 6, 1936 in Lansing to the late Myrle and Lela (Johnson) Shuck.
She married La Vern Joseph Belfry together they shared 65 happy years before his passing in 2016.
She spent many happy years working for J C Penny, sewing and making doll clothes for her great granddaughters, traveling this wide country with her husband LaVern and caring for her family. She also had many wonderful memories enjoying bon fires and lots of laughter at the lake.
She was a member of St. Francis Catholic Church for over 40 years.
She was preceded in death by her husband; son Verland and his wife Penny; son-in-law Doug; sister Kay and brother Ted.
She is survived by her daughter La Vonne Schafer; grandchildren Jennifer (TJ) Craig, Jessica (Steve) Goble, Jacob (Sara) Belfry, Joe Belfry, Laura (Brian) Roguske, Mike Schafer, Aaron (Bethany) Schafer; brother Doug Shuck and sister Karen Hill; and many great grandchildren who she loved deeply along with all of her nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, March 4, 2026 from 4 to 6 pm at Reynolds Jonkhoff Funeral Home. The rosary and a time of sharing and music will begin at 4 pm. For those unable to attend in person, the visitation will be streamed at www.rjfh.tv
A service celebrating her life will take place in the summer of 2026 where she will be laid to rest at the Maple Hill Cemetery in Cadillac.
