Daniel L. Wittkopp
He served in the U.S. Army during Vietnam. He graduated from the University of Michigan with a bachelor's degree in accounting and an Master of Business Administration. He held the distinction of the highest score in the state of Minnesota on the CPA exam and made a very successful career utilizing his education.
He and his wife of 50 years, Patricia, lived in various states in the U.S. and resided in Costa Rica for five years. They retired to Traverse City five years ago, where he was an active member and treasurer of the bicycle club and treasurer of the local SCORE chapter.
Dan was an avid backgammon player and baker. He also enjoyed being physically fit and pursued activities that challenged both his mind and his body. He loved to bike, travel, kayak, sail and walk with his wife and his dogs. He was community minded and was always willing to do whatever was needed, whether it be coaching kids, teaching English while living in Costa Rica or showing neighbors how to bake the perfect baguette.
He is survived by his wife, Patricia Wittkopp (Laisure); his brother, Russell W. Wittkopp (Jeanne), of Michigan; his sisters, Marilyn C. Turner (Fred), of Oregon, Ellen K. Hart (Timothy), of Oregon, Connie J. Molitor (George), of Illinois, Carol J. Mahassek (James), of Illinois, and Jeanne L. Swidorski (Timothy), of North Carolina; his mother-in-law, Donalda Laisure, of Michigan; five brothers-in-law, Samual Laisure, of California, Mark Laisure, John Laisure, of Michigan, Donald Laisure, of Colorado, and Michael Laisure, of Massachusetts; three sisters-in-law, Paulette Laisure-Pool, of Arizona, JoAnn Kowalski, of Michigan, and Mary Regazzini, of Massachusetts; and numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter R. and Leola M. Wittkopp; and his father-in-law, Sherman Laisure.
Dan has been cremated. A celebration of his life is planned for a future date.
