Traverse City, Michigan - EARL STANLEY "STAN" LIDDELL

Earl Stanley "Stan" Liddell, age 98, passed away on January 16, 2026, in Traverse City, Michigan. He was born on May 24, 1927, in Flint, Michigan, to James Alexander and Thressa Emma (Brown) Liddell. Stan attended Grand Blanc Schools and proudly served his country as a World War II veteran in the United States Army. He was honorably discharged in 1947.

On June 5, 1949, Stan married Gladys Badgley. Together they shared 74 years of marriage before Gladys preceded him in death.

Stan and Gladys built and owned the Cozy Corner Grocery and Gas from 1949 to 1961. A plumber by trade, Stan worked on numerous projects throughout Michigan, most notably contributing to the construction of the Mackinac Bridge. He had the privilege of being among the first people to cross the bridge upon its completion. He later worked as a Project Manager for Axtell Corporation and Associated Mechanical Services.

Stan was deeply involved in his community and fraternal organizations. He was a life member of the Traverse City Elks Lodge #323, a 50-year member of the Plumbers and Pipefitters Union, a life member of the Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite of Grand Rapids, a member of the Order of the Eastern Star Chapter #147, a member of the American Legion Post #3, a life member of Shriners International, and a member of the Grand Lodge of Free and Accepted Masons. He was also a life member of Traverse City Masonic Lodge #222, where he served as Worshipful Master.

Raised as a farm boy, Stan developed a lifelong love for the outdoors and gardening. His green thumb was evident each summer as he tended to his vegetables and flowers. He also enjoyed spending time with family, snowmobiling, camping, boating, hunting, fishing, and playing shuffleboard in Florida.

Stan is survived by his six children: Rodney Liddell (Cathy), Peggy Baier, Susan Goss, Mark Liddell (Lauri), Janice Agruda (Darrell), and Bonnie Durga. He is also survived by fifteen grandchildren: Robin Baier (Jessica), Jason Liddell (Brenda), Adam Liddell (Regan), Brook Goss (Janet), Willow Goss, Sunrise Goss, Megan Sowle (Weston), Matthew Liddell, Jennifer Kuz (Ryan), Kyle Agruda (Kelsey), Al Durga, Jacob Durga, Kirsten, Kaylee, and Kevin; as well as 26 great-grandchildren. He is further survived by his brother, Dan Liddell, and his sister, Leah Koon.
