Edgar J. Becker

Edgar J. Becker, born in 1936, passed away on Thursday, Aug. 15, 2019 at Munson Medical Center in Traverse City at the age of 82. Son of Alfred and Pauline Becker, Ed was a widower, having lost his wife JoAnn (Korson), to cancer in 2007.
Ed is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Cheryl and Robert Caulkins; his son and daughter-in-law, Craig and Stacie Becker; and three grandchildren, Joshua, Taylor and Zane.
Ed was a big-hearted man with many talents. Before retiring, Ed was a machinist in the tool and die industry, working for Sheffer Collet and later for ITW. He was a self-described fix-it man who was often called upon to get the job done when there was a problem that needed to be solved. Besides being a machinist, Ed was a talented carpenter, an avid sportsman and an industrious, old school, do-it-yourselfer.
He spent his retirement years on his property, gardening, repairing things in his workshop and enjoying his various sportsman activities. Ed loved to be at deer camp, in a boat on the bay or on the ice fishing with a friend.
He was an active member of the local Fraternal Order of Eagles, where he often played cards, told some tales and enjoyed the fellowship of his friends and acquaintances.
Ed was a mercurial man who loved the American flag and the freedoms for which it stood. He was a veteran of the Korean war and was proud to have served his country.
Those who knew him described Ed as a "great guy." He was generous to those he loved and was always available to lend a hand when it was needed. He was quick with a story, hearty in his laughter and gave readily of his time and resources. He was loved by his family and friends, and he will be greatly missed.
According to Ed's last wishes, no formal funeral services will be held. A memorial lunch will be held at the Traverse City Eagles Club located at 409 W. 14th Street in Traverse City on Saturday, Sept. 7, from noon to 3 p.m. All who knew Ed are welcome to come for lunch and to share stories and remembrances.

I worked with Ed at Sheffer Collet many years ago. He was a quick witted, fun guy.
