Edward William Osga (Ed) Obituary
Edward William Osga passed away on Sunday, March 30, 2025, at the age of 79. Because I have died once before of a heart attack, and was resuscitated, I have made some of my own funeral arrangements, including writing my own obituary.
I was born on December 24, 1945, to Joseph J. and Lucille S. Osga in Warren, Michigan. I was the youngest of five children. I had three sisters: Loretta, Esther, and Rosemary; and one brother, Albert.
We lived in Warren until 1962, when we moved to Traverse City, where I attended T.C.C. High School. After graduation, I returned to Warren to live and serve an apprenticeship from February 1965 to August 1970, at which time I was a journeyman Tool and Die Maker, and worked in the automotive industry for my career.
On Saturday, July 15, 1967, I married my high school sweetheart, Eva Jean Robinson at Immaculate Conception Church, in Traverse City. Eve and I settled in the Lake Ann area, and we had three loving children, Bec, Joe, and Ron. I joined the Almira Township Fire Department in 1975 and became an EMT and served on Benzie County Search and Rescue for 20 years.
I did some scuba diving in the 1980's and from that I found a real like of the great lakes, ship watching and shipwrecks. However, drag racing was the love of my life and I started racing in 1965 at Detroit Dragway and Motor City Dragway. My whole family raced, having owned nine race cars over the years. I retired in October of 2003, and had a long, enjoyable retirement, with many years of racing.
From this day on my cremated remains can be found at the Green Briar Cemetery in Almira Township, Section "G", Lot "55". Bring a penny and pay a visit. I never liked flowers, they always smelled like a funeral, but a donation to the Benzie County Baby Pantry at St. Philips Episcopal Church, in Beulah, Michigan, would be nice. Tell them Ed sent you.
My Celebration of Life will be held at 12 pm on Saturday, May 3, 2025, at the Bennett-Barz Funeral Home, in Beulah. Visitation will take place from 11 am until the time of service at the funeral home followed by a graveside service at Green Briar Cemetery at 2 pm with a luncheon at the PRA Hall in Honor, Michigan. Tacos, of course, my favorite meal. Attire is casual so please wear your favorite blue jeans and racing t-shirt.
The Bennett-Barz Funeral Home, in Beulah, is in charge of arrangements.
