Mr Elwin D Evans (Red) Obituary

Lansing, Michigan - Elwin (Red) D. Evans 10/19/1932-03/22/2026 Red passed away peacefully in his sleep. He grew up in East Jordon Michigan and was active in high school sports and civics. He attended Northwestern College where he met and married Marlene Watson. He served as a medic in the army, before returning to Traverse City to work with his father. By 1960 Red and Marlene had 5 children. They moved to East Lansing so Red could attend MSU where he majored in geography and entomology. In January of 1966 they moved to Corvallis Oregon where Red entered a PHD program in entomology. In early 1972 the family moved back to Lansing so Red could work for the Department of Natural Resources as an aquatics biologist. During his years with the DNR he worked on environmental cleanup issues affecting waterways and wildlife in the state. He retired in 1995 and began volunteering at MSU as the Curator of the aquatic insect collections. He loved reading, dancing, gardening and fishing. He is survived by his brother David, sister Mae and his 5 children Cheri,Lori, Dana,Shelly and Jay.
