Traverse City, MI - Frederick "Fred" Banister, 82, of Traverse City, went home to be with his Savior, Jesus, on Monday, May 4, 2026.

Born in Grand Rapids, MI to the late Gerald and Margaret Banister, Fred lived a life full of faith, laughter, family, friendship and gratitude.

He was a proud graduate of Michigan State University and never passed up a chance to say, "Go Green!"

He will be fondly remembered for his sense of humor, positive outlook, strong devotion to God and ability to make everyone feel special. He found joy in fishing, camping, boating, playing games, attending Bible study, and cheering on the Detroit Tigers and the Spartans. He also enjoyed good comfort food, especially burgers and pot roast. Nearly everything was made better if family and friends were there to join him. He was rarely seen without a Hawaiian or plaid shirt on.

In addition to his parents, Fred was preceded in death by his wife, Jill and his brother, David. He is survived by his son, John, and daughter-in-law Jane, along with their children Emma and Jack; his daughter, Meg, and son-in-law, Charles, along with their children Abby and Henry; and his loyal grand dog Zoe.

Fred will be deeply missed and thought of often by all who knew and loved him.
