Heidi McQuistion Obituary

Traverse City, Michigan - Heidi McQuisition passed away July 5, 2025 after a brave battle with unexpected multiple health complications.

Heidi was born in Highland Park, Michigan on September 28, 1958, to Ewald and Hildegard (Konyen) Lassel.

She lived in several communities across Michigan during her childhood and into adulthood, and for shorter periods in Florida and California.

Heidi and Jeff McQuistion were married in Lake Orion, Michigan September 21, 1980. In 1986 they moved to Traverse City.

Heidi worked for many years in dental labs as a dental technician. After retiring from that career, she helped care for her mother in her final years, and built her own home cleaning business.

Heidi was drawn to old-style VW beetles from an early age, and owned several over the years. She found joy in many things: traveling in Romania with her sister, Hilde; raising pet chickens; hunting for rocks along Lake Superior; searching out the varieties of fruit trees and vegetable plants she remembered as her mother's favorites, and recreating her recipes with them. She had a gift for bringing nature and creativity together in every space she touched. She found great joy in their brilliant and strong-minded basenji dog, Lily.

Heidi was preceded in death by her mother, Hildegard Konyen, her brother Wil (Di) Lassel, and her parents-in-law, Alice and Arnold McQuistion.

She is survived by her father Ewald (Ruth) Lassel, Cosby, Tennessee; her sister Hilde (Dean) Bonesteel, Harbor Springs, Michigan; stepsister Lydia (Mitch) Moore, Pensacola, Florida; her half sister Karin (Michael) Villanova, Cosby, Tennessee; and sisters-in-law Lori (Derek) Aab, Billings, Montana; Jan (Ernie) Jury, Interlochen, Michigan; and Mona (Chip) Garvin, Cadillac, Michigan.

Heidi lived her life thoughtfully and selflessly, to a degree we seldom experience, laughing with, loving and caring for, giving time and attention to, and encouraging people wherever she saw loneliness or a need.

Her eight nieces and nephews, and their children, will miss her greatly, as will many close friends, and the strong, loving family at Traverse City Seventh-day Adventist Church where she and Jeff are members.

Cremation has taken place. A celebration of Heidi's life is planned for a future date.
