Howard  Fant Jr.
Howard "Nick" Fant Jr., 73, of Frankfort, died May 2, 2018. Born Dec. 10, 1944 in Grand Haven, he was the son of Howard and Jean Fant.
He graduated Grand Haven High School in Michigan and Parsons College in Fairfield, Iowa.
He worked as a designer engineer at B&B Design in Grand Haven and the Donnelly Corp. in Holland, where he and Wayne Vanderbrent received a patent for the day-night rearview mirror assembly.
Nick retired to Frankfort, where he started Nick's Riverbend Charters with fly fishing trips on the Betsie and Manistee River for 14 years.
He was a board director of the shotgun area at the Benzie Sportsman's Club in Benzonia, where he spent much of his time working and shooting. He was a son of the American Legion Post 221 in Frankfort.
He loved to fish and hunt with his hunting dog and best friend, "Fancy."
He is survived by his loving wife of 46 years, Cynthia; sisters, Mary (Michael) Sebastian, of Grand Rapids, and Martha Schneider, of Cedar Springs; cousins, Virginia (Dick) Aubrey, of West Olive, and Sue (Mike) Hornby, of Traverse City; brother-in-law, Warren (Chris) Ogden, of Somers, Connecticut; sister-in-law, Heather Beam, of Leominster, Massachusetts; many nieces and nephews; special friends, Mike Daly, George and Sara Zysk, Pat Griffin, Terry and Lin Westra, Norm Polderdyke and Chris Brown; and the whole gun club family, American Legion family and POMH family.
Per Nick's wishes, he will be cremated. A memorial service will be held at a later date.
Contributions may be directed to the Benzie Sportsman Club or the American Legion Post 221, Frankfort.
