Irwin B. Stoner
Irwin "Irv" Burr Stoner, of Traverse City, passed away peacefully on Oct. 1, 2019 at Munson Hospice House in Traverse City.
He was born in Owosso to Burr and Catherine (Nelson) Stoner on March 10, 1929. His childhood years were happily spent in Owosso. Some of his fondest memories were visits to his grandparents' dairy farm with his cousins.
He spent his high school years at Principia in St. Louis, Missouri, and graduated in 1947. He was captain of the football and soccer teams.
Following high school he attended his beloved Michigan State University. His years at Michigan State included playing football and boxing, and he developed lifelong friendships from his Delta Tau Delta fraternity. He graduated from Michigan State University in 1951 with a Bachelor of Science (B.S.).
Irv and his wife, Marcia, moved to Traverse City in 1980. He owned and operated Modern Cleaners in Traverse City and was active buying and selling commercial real estate.
He enjoyed adventures and completed several "bucket list" experiences, including skydiving and a white-water raft trip with his son, during his life. His zest for life in Traverse City was unparalleled. He loved flying, fishing, sailing, swimming and golfing. In the fall there was hunting with family and friends. Irv was a longtime season ticket holder, attending Michigan State football home games or coaching/watching away games on TV. In the winter Irv loved skiing and ice boating. He always loved traveling with his wife, Marcia, in any season.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Virginia; his first wife, Nancy; his daughter, Linda; as well as his parents.
Irv was a loving and devoted father and grandfather to his children and his grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife, Marcia; sons, Kurt (Lisa R) Stoner and Mark Stoner; daughter, Lisa K Stoner; grandchildren, Jamie and Aaron; great-grandchildren; and his stepchildren, step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren.
