Traverse City, Michigan - James John (Jim) Alexander died on November 14th, 2025, in Traverse City, Michigan. He was born to James E. and Elizabeth Alexander on January 16th, 1938 in Saginaw. He was a basketball star at Saginaw Arthur Hill High School before graduating with degrees from CMU and MSU. He married Nancy Asline in 1959. Jim made many friends as a respected administrator with Oscoda Area Schools for 30 years, while they raised their three children. He was proud to be an active charter member of the Oscoda Rotary Club.
Jim loved fly fishing on the holy water of the AuSable River at the family cabin near Grayling. He hiked and chased fish in Montana, Florida, Utah, Colorado, Wyoming, Arizona, Canada, New Zealand and Wales. Jim and Nancy traveled through 27 countries together, including two months in New Zealand where they hiked the Milford Trek. He read thousands of books, played duplicate bridge, cooked goulash and chili, and made chocolate truffles for friends and family at Christmas.
Jim was wonderful as a person, a friend, a father, a husband, and an especially happy grandpa. He and Nancy had three children: Steven (wife Margaret) of Traverse City, Kristin (deceased, husband Mike LeClair) of Oscoda, and daughter Susan. Jim enjoyed their 7 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.
The family plans to celebrate Jim's life at their cabin on the river next year. You can honor Jim by doing a few extra acts of honesty and kindness......be like he was!
