James Nothacker

James "Jim" Nothacker, "The Captain," passed away July 16, 2019 at Munson Hospice House overlooking the woods, which was on his bucket list of desires, to live in the woods.
Jim was born Sept. 25, 1935 to the late Charles and Adelaide (Sherman) Nothacker in Shelby, Ohio. He was one of two children.
He served honorably in both the U.S. Navy and the U.S. Coast Guard. He spent four years in the Navy and 16 in the Coast Guard, retiring in 1976. During his time in the service he sailed around the entire world and was in all seven oceans as well as both the North and South Poles.
After completing his time in the service, he joined the United States Postal Service and worked from 1976 until retirement in 1996.
During his time at the post office he fell in love and married his best friend, travel companion and side kick, Wanda Cook, on Dec. 19, 1987. Together during their marriage they traveled all 50 states and the Panama Canal. They loved the time together, the landscape they discovered and all the people they met along the way.
In his free time, Jim was a member of the American Legion #35 and the American Military League. Jim was a faithful member of Trinity Lutheran Church and volunteered his time in any way he could.
Jim is survived by his wife; his daughter, Andrea (Charles) Tiffany; sons, Jeffery and John Nothacker and Eugene (Kathy) Yagel; as well as 30 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and the extended family of Gene and Sue Johnson and family.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Jack; and his daughters, Michelle Heinisch and Sharon Dunn.
Visitation will take place Wednesday, July 24, 2019 at the Reynolds Jonkhoff Funeral Home from 2 to 4 p.m. and 4 to 6 p.m. A funeral service to celebrate and honor Jim's life will take place Thursday, July 25, 2019 at Trinity Lutheran Church at 1 p.m., with visitation from noon to 1 p.m. Proper military rites will follow the service.
