Rapid City, Michigan - James (Jim) William Woodruff, age 98, of Rapid City, Michigan, peacefully passed away Friday, August 29, 2025 at the Meadowbrook Medical Facility in Bellaire, Michigan. Jim was born to Colden and Sylvia (Schlechty) Woodruff on January 19, 1927 in Rapid City, Michigan. Jim grew up in Rapid City and Flint Michigan. In 1945 he enlisted into the U.S. Army and married Beatrice E. Larabee. The Army sent Jim to Germany to be part of the major clean-up near Berlin, Germany just as the war in Europe was ending. After proudly serving his country, Jim moved his family to Flint, Michigan, where he was employed with General Motors, Buick Division for the next 30 years. While employed at G.M., Jim was an active member of the U.A.W. and served as Committee Man for many years. Jim loved the outdoors and was an avid hunter and fisherman. On September 15, 1973, Jim married Annabelle J. Morrison. After retiring from G. M., Jim and Ann moved permanently to Rapid City. Jim and Ann were active in the local U.A.W., Advocacy for Senior Citizens, and many other activities. Jim and Ann loved playing games, traveling, and going to the casino. He lost his dear Ann in December of 2018. Jim is survived by his daughters, Connie Velez and Billie Jo Ashworth; son, Thomas (Linda) Woodruff; Sister, Marjorie Chapman; 12 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren; many, many nephews, nieces, cousins, and dear friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Ann; Sisters Donna (Clark) Champney, Marian (John) Brinegar, Louise (Chuck) Dillenbeck; Son, Terry (Lynn) Woodruff, and Daughter, Penny (David) Clark. A graveside service will be held on Saturday, September 20, 2025 at 11 am at Clearwater Township Cemetery. A memorial luncheon will follow immediately after the graveside service at the Kalkaska Commission on Aging. Arrangements have been entrusted to Kalkaska Funeral Home and Cremation Services.
