Jeffrey A. Waldeck

Jeffrey A. Waldeck, TSgt. USAF (retired), 58, of Colorado Springs, Colorado, passed away on Monday, June 24, 2019 after a long illness. Jeff was born on April 11, 1961 in Traverse City to Barbara and the late James Waldeck.
He graduated from Traverse City Central High School in 1979 and joined the United States Air Force Nov. 8, 1979. Jeff proudly served his country for 20 years, retiring on Nov. 30, 1999. During his time with the USAF, Jeff was an Airborne Cryptologic Linguist, Airborne Mission Supervisor, Data Link Operator and a Freedom Through Vigilance Association member. Jeff studied Russian right out of basic training and went back to study intermediate Russian in 1985.
Jeff's time with the USAF took him all over the world, from California, Texas and Nebraska, to Okinawa, Japan, Mildenhall, England, and even places like Iraq and Kuwait during Operations Desert Shield and Desert Storm.
Jeff's favorite quote, "Whatever it takes to get the job done," is evident as the men and women he served with remember him as a Cold War Warrior, a consummate professional, a trusted crew member and a loyal and true friend with a quick wit, who was always grinning. It was a grin that made you think he might be up to no good.
After retiring from the Air Force, Jeff went to work for the Boeing Corporation and Missile Defense Agency until October 2008.
When he wasn't working, Jeff enjoyed working on model trains and planes. He also enjoyed listening to barbershop music, a love he got from his dad. When it was time for a Detroit Red Wings game, Jeff was ready, sporting nothing less than a Red Wings jersey or t-shirt. He was also ready to yell for any U of M football game and cheer on his Wolverines. But the one thing Jeff loved the most was his granddaughter, Elexia. She was the apple of his eye, and he was always ready with open arms for a hug.
Jeff is survived by his mother, Barbara Waldeck, of Traverse City; the mother of his children, Jane (Steffen) Waldeck; three daughters, Bridgett, Annelise and Sara; one very loved granddaughter, Elexia Fair; seven brothers and sisters, Mike Waldeck, Lorrie (Don) Thompson, Gail (Scott) Applekamp, Scott (Beth) Waldeck, Kris (Matt) Flynn, Janice (Matt) Waldeck-Skrzypczak and Jennifer (Steve) Kovacs; and several nieces and nephews.
Jeff was preceded in death by his father, James Waldeck.
A memorial service was held at the United States Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs.

I went to school with Jeff from grade school days at Glenn Loomis and have been a Facebook friend with him for a while now. I am so sorry for you loss.
