Joyce A. Barnes, age 79, of Interlochen, passed away on Sunday April 10, 2022, in the comfort of her home.

Joyce was born on Sept. 13, 1942, in Grand Rapids, the daughter of the late Peter and Mildred (Matthews) Kooiman.

She was a member of the First Congregational Church of Benzonia.

Joyce enjoyed spending her time gardening, traveling and visiting with her friends and family.

She is survived by her life partner, Robert Ward, of Interlochen; children, Michael (Tammy) Barnes, of Clarkston; Dan (Heidi) Barnes, of Maple Valley, Washington; and Cheryl (Brian) Nowak, of Eaton Rapids; grandchildren, Kristine Hammond, of South Lyon; Kayla Neidow, of Ferndale; David Barnes, of Seattle, Washington; Matthew Barnes, of Ravensdale, Washington; Mason Nowak and Megan Nowak, both of Eaton Rapids; and great-grandchildren, Elliot, Owen and Ivy Hammond, of South Lyon.

Besides her parents, Joyce was preceded in death by her husband, Roger Barnes; sisters, Mary Vodry and Pearl Valentine; and brother, Kenneth Kooiman.

A memorial service for Joyce will be held on Saturday May 14, 2022, at 4 p.m. at Oak Grove Funeral Home in Manistee, MI with Pastor Patty Higgins officiating. Family will receive friends from 3 p.m. until the time of service.
