Joyce was born May 11, 1929, to Earl H. and Helen E. (Rousseau) Falkenhagen in Saginaw, Michigan. She moved to Traverse City, MIchigan in 1961 and lived there for 49 years, then moved to Wyoming, Michigan in 2010.
Joyce was predeceased by her parents; former husband, Elton D. (Bud) Spears; son-in-law, Steven P. Johnson, sister and brother-in-law, Kay and John Konieczka; nephews, John Konieczka and Brian Konieczka.
Surviving Joyce are sons and daughters, R. Timothy Spears of Wyoming, MI; Daniel (Sue) Spears of Jenison, MI; Laurie Johnson of Traverse City, MI; and Amy Spears of Williamsburg, MI. Surviving grandchildren are Andrew (Kelly) Johnson of Traverse City, MI; Kathryn Johnson of Clarksville, TN; Candice (Bret) Munro of Menifee, CA; Chelsea (Tyler) VandenBosch of Traverse City, MI; Sarah (Evrett) Hemmes of Holland, MI; and Aaron Spears of Jenison, MI; 7 great grandchildren and 5 nieces and nephews.
Cremation has taken place through Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home and Cremation Services. A remembrance gathering will be held Sunday, July 13, 2025, at the Botanical Garden at the Commons Historical Barns, 1490 Red Dr., Traverse City, MI.
