Kingsley, Michigan - Kurt R. Douglass, 67, passed away suddenly at his home on Aug. 25, 2019 while recovering from open heart surgery. He was born in Detroit on July 5, 1952 to Howard L. and Anita R. Douglass.

Upon graduating from Redford High School, he attended Lake Superior State University, Michigan State University and Northern Michigan College. His education culminated in a 35-year career as senior designer at Cone Drive, from which he recently retired.

In his spare, time Kurt enjoyed building dry stack stone walls and creating intricate stone mosaic fireplaces. The meandering stone walls that grace the grounds of The Kingsley Club are his works of art.

He was also an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed camping, hiking, hunting and fishing. A quiet man of integrity and a deeply devoted Christian, he volunteered with many church related programs, including the Keryx Prison Ministry.

He enjoyed an active lifestyle working out at various athletic clubs for more than 30 years. In 2008 he competed in the Grand Traverse Bodybuilding competition, taking third place at the Grand Master Level. He also successfully completed the Bay Shore Marathon. Both of these were treasured bucket list ventures.

Kurt was a devoted, loving husband to Kathy, his wife of five and a half years. He was deeply committed to his family and especially to his grandchildren. He will be sorely missed by his mother, Anita R. Douglass; his sons, Matt (Jennifer) Douglass and their children, Rhett and Wren; and Adam (Jamie) Douglass and their sons, Evan Douglass and Owen and Lucas Buning. In addition he leaves behind his wife's sons, Geoff (Alexis) Mlinarcik and daughter, Mackenzie; JT (Cathy) Mlinarcik and their children, Halle, Jon Grady, Ryder and Dillon; his siblings, Robert (Karen) Douglass and Kathleen (Bill) Mansfield; and special family member, Stephanie Yodis.

He was preceded in death by his father, Howard L. Douglass; his late wife, Colleen Douglass; and his brother-in-law, Bill Mansfield.

Friends and family are invited to visit Covell Funeral Home in Kingsley on Thursday, Aug. 29, from 5 to 8 p.m. A second visitation will take place from 10 to 11 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 30, at The Tabernacle in Buckley. The funeral service will begin immediately afterwards at 11 a.m., with a luncheon to follow.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Kurt's memory to The Tabernacle Church or to Kingsley Area Schools Athletic Boosters.
