Margaret Denyse Kotasek Everett, born in Columbus, Ohio, passed away peacefully on May 3, 2025, surrounded by family. She was 78 years old.

An only child, she grew up in Columbus and attended The Ohio State University, where she began laying the foundation for a life defined by strength and resilience. After the tragic loss of her first husband to cancer shortly after the birth of their son, Darrin, she bravely chose a new path—moving with her newborn to Traverse City, Michigan to pursue her love of figure skating, both as a coach and lifelong enthusiast. She eventually transitioned into a career in special needs counseling at Northwestern Michigan College, where she spent more than 20 years.

She later married Stuart Everett and welcomed a second child, Andrew. Though the marriage ended, she remained a devoted and loving mother.

A breast cancer survivor, she exemplified grace and determination in the face of hardship. Music was her lifelong companion—she found joy in playing the piano, singing in church choir, and sharing music with those she loved.

She will be remembered for her generosity, strength, and unwavering love for her family, and for the many lives she touched through her work, teaching, and kindness. Her innocent and unassuming nature belied an inner strength, openness, and adventurous spirit that carried her through her many successes and challenges.

She is survived by her children, Darrin and Andrew, her four grandchildren, and by all those who were fortunate to know her.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the U.S. Figure Skating Family Support Fund, which provides support for the figure skating families directly affected by the crash of American Airlines Flight 5342.
