Martha Jean Burgess, age 94, of Jenison, passed away on Tuesday, Nov. 23, 2021.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Rev. Warren Burgess; parents, Roy and Lida Wright; 4 sisters; and 3 brothers. In the days preceding her passing to her heavenly home, she was lovingly attended to by her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren in addition to many nieces and nephews. She is remembered by her children, Kathy (Bob) Piers, Mike (Pat) Burgess, Randy (Joan) Burgess, Daniel (Lori) Burgess, Tim (Heidi) Burgess; 11 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; 3 great-great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews.

Jean married the love of her life, Warren Burgess, on August 19, 1949 and together they launched into a life of ministry that lasted 67 years. Throughout those years they served churches in Muskegon, Clinton, Iowa, Grand Rapids, Hamilton, Traverse City and Byron Center. She was often right at his side as he ministered to the needs of congregation members and served on multiple church committees and in women's ministries. Jean was known by friends and family as a generous and loving supporter who enjoyed gathering to share a meal, stories and a few laughs. She had a deep love for her family and did many things to keep the extended family tied closely together.

The family will greet relatives and friends at Stroo Funeral Home on Thursday, December 2, from 6 P.M to 8 P.M and Friday, Dec. 3, at Corinth Reformed Church, prior to the service, from10 A.M to 11 A.M. The funeral service will begin at 11 A.M Friday with a luncheon following at Corinth Reformed Church, 129 100th St. SE, Byron Center, MI 49315, with Pastors Tim and Randy Burgess officiating. Interment will be in Winchester Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made, in lieu of flowers, to Sunset Manor for the excellent care they provided Jean and her family.
