Mavis Lee Meister, 78, of Kaleva, died Monday, July 17, 2017, at Paul Oliver Living and Rehabilitation Center in Frankfort. She was born Aug. 9, 1938 in Manistee, the daughter of William and Marie (Wertanen) Makinen.

Mavis worked at West Shore Hospital in Manistee for 30 years as an executive secretary. Following her retirement she took up quilting.

Mavis had an unwavering faith in her Lord and Savior and was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Onekama.

Mavis' greatest joy in her life was her family, especially her beloved grandsons. She was known as the "French Toast Grandmother" to her grandsons, and she taught them all to fish.

On May 3, 1958 Mavis married Wayne Dale Meister, who survives her. She is also survived by her children, Wendy (Gregory) Badersnider, of Rockford, Bryan (Polly) Meister, of Manistee, and Shari Sovereign, of Kaleva; her grandsons, Lee (Emie) Badersnider, Keith Badersnider, Kevin Badersnider, Jarett Sovereign and Austin Sovereign; her sister, Doreen Yonkman; and several nieces and nephews.

Mavis was preceded in death by her parents.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 22, 2017, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Onekama, with Pastor Timothy Selim officiating. Visitation will take place from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, July 21, 2017 at the Terwilliger Funeral Home in Kaleva.
