Kalkaska, MI - Michael Erwin Birgy, 86, of Fife Lake, passed away on October 4, 2025 at Kalkaska Memorial Health Center. He was born on August 20, 1939 at home in Fife Lake to the late Leo and Elsie (Haskins) Birgy. He lived and loved a quiet, simple, unpretentious life. He was a man of deep faith and a strong work ethic. His joy was his family, especially his "little people". He loved the outdoor life; hunting and fishing with his sons, grandsons, and brothers. He also loved watching and reading westerns, especially Louis L'Amour. He enjoyed morning coffee with his cronies at the Loon's Nest. Mike was a veteran, honorably serving in the Army from 1958-1962. He was a member of the Forest Area School Board for 12 years and helped coach his son's baseball team. He did prison ministry work and was a member of Fife Lake Community Church. He is survived by his wife of 63 years Margaret; sons Michael (Kelly), Eric (Lisa), and Todd (Aimee); brother Alan (Kay) Birgy; grandchildren: Megan (Hank) Kleeves, Christopher (Janay) Birgy, Nicholas (April) Birgy, Kourtni Birgy, Travis (Ashta) Birgy, Maggie Little, Sarah Little, Scott, Marissa, and Payton Sedwick; great-grandchildren: Ella Mae, Kyrin, Bailee, Leighlyn, Addison, Walter, Kayci, Evelyn, Veronica and special kids Aiden and Gavin. Brother-in-law William (Diane) Harwood; sisters-in-law Bonnie (David) Gonyer and Sheree (Mark) Stei; also, many nieces and nephews. The family wishes to express their gratitude to the wonderful staff at Kalkaska Long Term Care Memory Unity. We never doubted he was being professionally and kindly cared for; they would like to also thank Heartland Hospice. Donations in Mike's memory can be made to the Fife Lake Community Church Food Pantry or to Heartland Hospice. A memorial service will be held at 11:00am, friends may begin gathering at 10am, on Saturday, October 11, 2025 at Kalkaska Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Clark Cemetery in Fife Lake. Arrangements have been entrusted to Kalkaska Funeral Home and Cremation Services.
