Kingsley, Michigan - In loving memory of

Michael Francis "Mick" Houghton

September 12, 1947 - June 19, 2025

Mick passed in his sleep at home in Kingsley, Michigan.

He was born in in Traverse City, Michigan to Francis "Frank" and Dorothy (Harrigan) Houghton. The youngest of 7, and the only son. He grew up and graduated from Kingsley Area School in 1965.

He proudly served in the US Air Force at the Clinton Sherman Air Force Base, Burns Flat, OK. He married Mary Ann Hudson of Kingsley, and together they had two children.

He loved to be outdoors. He shot sporting clays and hunted, which sometimes involved more naps than hunting. Farming and fishing were other favorites.

More than anything he enjoyed his family and friends. Visiting and cookouts at the garage were always the best of times for Mick.

He had a good heart and would do anything for anyone. Good jokes and laughter abounded in his presence. He loved to poke fun and tease.

He met and married Alfreda "Freda" Russell and they were happily married for many years.

He retired as Postmaster of Buckley, Michigan enjoying his retirement fully.

Mick was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Dorothey, sisters, Joann (Ray) Bembeneck, Nancy (Charlie) Frye, Ruth (Charlie) Stevens, Margaret "Peg" (Bob) Knight, and Susan "Susie" Morgan and wife Freda. He is survived by His son, Chad Houghton and daughter Michelle "Shelli" Houghton. Grandchildren, Sasha Ruszel, Lucas Ruszel, Michael (Lorie) Houghton, Mykayla Houghton, Frank (Jaimie) Houghton, David (Amanda) Russell, Amanda (Steve) Storms, Matt Isaacson, and Ryan (Jen) Russell. Had had many great grandchildren and great, great grandchildren. He is also survived by his dog, Muffin.

A celebration of life with Military Honors will be held at the American Legion in Fife Lake, Michigan on Saturday July 26, 2025. A light lunch will be served from 11-2pm. Please help us celebrate a life well lived.
