Patricia Anne Bernhardt Wiegert (Pat) Obituary

Athens, GA - Patricia Anne Bernhardt Wiegert, 92, of Athens, passed away December 8, 2025 in Athens, Georgia. Pat was born on October 3, 1933 in Traverse City, Michigan, the daughter of Victor and Mary (Powell) Bernhardt.

Pat grew up in Grawn, MI and graduated from Traverse City High School (1951). She earned her undergraduate degree (1956) from Adrian College (MI).

Pat was a teacher at Demings Lake, Interlochen, Dewitt, and Welch's Corners (MI). When her daughters graduated elementary school, she resumed her career as an early child educator at Winterville Elementary School (GA) until retiring in 1994.

Pat met Richard Wiegert at Adrian College. They married in 1955 in Washington, D.C., honeymooned in Germany, and lived in East Lansing and Whitmore Lake (MI) before moving to Aiken (SC) and settling in Athens (GA) in 1966.

Pat loved animals and nurtured a multitude of cats and dogs. She enjoyed the outdoors, especially mountains and the beach. For many summers she lived, hiked, and camped in and near Yellowstone Park. Later she accompanied her husband to Sapelo Island (GA), where she roamed the beaches she loved. She read voraciously, worked jigsaw puzzles, and solved complicated crossword puzzles. Pat traveled around the U.S. and Europe, including visiting her daughters in Germany and the UK and travelling with friends to England, Ireland, France, and Alaska. She and a dear friend once travelled the 127 Corridor Sale (World's Longest Yard Sale) from Georgia to Kentucky. Antiquing and junking were passions, as were collecting art pottery and hand-blown glass.

Pat earned her master's degree in early childhood education from the University of Georgia, in 1977. In retirement, she reveled in spending time with family and friends.

Pat is survived by daughters Lisa (Johannes) Kohler of Watkinsville, GA and Karla (Ralf) Möller of Urbana, IL; grandchildren, Nicholas (Sarah Hoyle-Katz) Möller, Daniel Kohler, Christopher (Jennifer) Möller, Christina (Ryan Vasallo) Kohler and Thomas (Lauren Hemerlein) Kohler.

Pat was predeceased by her siblings Virginia Bernhardt, Barbara Gillis, Margaret Parker, and Victor Bernhardt. She is survived by Victor's wife, Bonnie Bernhardt.

A private memorial for family and close friends honoring Pat will be held at a future date.
