Peter N. Gokey, 85, of Traverse City, died June 18, 2024 at his home.

Peter was born on November 11, 1938, in his family's log cabin in Bliss, Michigan, the son of Peter and Esther (Marshall) Gokey. He attended school at the West Bliss schoolhouse and in Pellston before joining the United States Navy at age 17.

Peter proudly served his country in the Navy from 1955-1959. He had the opportunity to sail on a world tour aboard the battleship Wisconsin.

When he returned home, he worked as a bus driver for North Star and then later became an over the road truck driver. He enjoyed buying and selling cars, riding his motorcycle and deer hunting in the fall.

He was a member of the VFW and the teamsters. He'll be remembered for his quiet, gentle presence.

Peter is survived by his life partner Linda Gokey of Traverse City; children Pete and Mark Gokey; brothers Bob (Marie) Gokey of Idaho, Gary (Elaine) Gokey of Harbor Springs, Bernie (Peggy) Gokey of Bliss, Dick (the late Sherry) Gokey of Delaware, Michael "Mick" Gokey of Kansas, and Todd Gokey; many nieces and nephews including a special nephew Christopher Gokey.

He is preceded in death by his daughter Koreen Egler; first wife Nancy Gokey; niece Melissa Gokey; and by his parents.

Peter will be laid to rest at Bliss Township Cemetery and a celebration of his life is being planned for later this year. Details will be announced by Stone Funeral Home.
